First post ever on buymyupgrade’s blog. I suppose it should explain why this site exists in the first place.
Over the year’s, i’ve spent many hundreds of hours on planes travelling for business & pleasure. During this time, much like other serious points geeks, I got to learn a lot about how these programs work. It always interested me and I knew at some point I wanted to build a business in that space.
What I noticed from speaking to my work colleagues was that most of them didn’t care so much about the mechanics of how it all worked. That was despite the fact they were all members of the same loyalty programs, they didn’t enjoy the legwork and learning aspect that I did.
I can count multiple people that have spent their points on dumb stuff. Using them to make cash tickets cheaper (rarely a good option), using them to buy food & beverages onboard short-haul flights and the worst offender – buying wine during COVID lockdown. Not a good use of those hard earned points.
I decided to leave my job this year and pursue this venture because I kept seeing people around me who wanted to get good use of their points but didn’t really have the desire to learn the in’s and out’s and instead wanted someone else do the legwork for them. That’s the primary reason why I founded this site. I love the legwork!
